Guilty Conscience

Silence falls over me
In the evening
Covers me in a heavy blanket
Of darkness and guilt
I try and exhale my sins
But they smother me back
As I am forced
To breathe them back in
The hands on the clock
Taunt me with their sound
Acknowledging my excessive sleep
My vision is blurred
My judgement is compromised
Nothing can undo
What I have done
The rain will not wash away
My guilty conscience
The sun will not brighten
My inner darkness
It will only serve to expose the truth
When the shadows dissolve
And unearth my face
Denial is no longer an option
It never was!
